Dear visitors, you are welcome to visit Madona Local History and Art Museum.
We are located in four places in the territory of the city of Madona.
- Administration and collection building - a place where historians research, curators oversee the collection and the museum director resides.
- Exhibition halls re-opened since 12.05.2023.- a place where art and history exhibitions from Latvia and the world can be viewed, various art and educational events are held. We welcome you in renovated and more accessible premises.
- Storage of Ethnographic and Household articles - the open collection of the museum, where the history of the region can be viewed through objects, various tasks and events.
- Haralds Mednis Cultural Education Centre “Dziesmusvētku skola”- the story of Latvia's intangible cultural heritage - the Festival of Songs, through the musical personalities of the region.

About the museum
Established in 1944. The museum collects, stores and exhibits materials about history, culture and art of Madona City and Region. Former Biržu Manor barn was restored, and spacious art exhibition halls (Skolas Street 10a) were added in 1984. There is a permanent exhibition about archaeology of the region. The most extensive finds of the Middle and Early Stone Age in Latvia come from the area of Lake Lubāns in the east of Madona Region. The museum hosts various thematic and art exhibitions, events and lectures on regular basis. The museum offers educational programs for children, pupils and adults. Visitors can use the scientific library of the museum. Tours around the city and region are available for groups.
